It is indeed a very innovative and a daring step by the Federal Government to introduce the Home Star Energy Program. It is both an investment and a cost. But with a long term goal in mind, the Government had set forth to introduce this program to every home in the US. The rebates that are given to the homeowners in both the Silver Rebate and the Gold Rebate Home Star programs are similar to the Cash for Clunkers Program.
The vendors of the Home star products would issue rebates to the homeowners. And these vendors will get the same reimbursed from the Government. These vendors are authorized to sell these products. They should also validate whether these homes are referred by a certified contractor or not. The homes should be certified for energy efficient insulations.
After the homes are upgraded with these products the Energy Auditors will go back for an inspection on the work done. The Quality assurance team does inspection so as to provide the rebate to the homeowners.
Only if the consumer receives the rebate will the vendor be able to pursue it. As a part of the Home Star Energy Program, the QA team ensures that the consumers receive their rebates on time once the upgrades have been done on the home.
If the homeowners observe and keep a track of their utility bills, they would be surprised to know that they would save around $200 to $500 a year. This is purely because of the installation of energy saving products.
